Lightening the Workload for a Healthy Delivery and Recovery

by Katie Moore

Preparing for labor starts at conception and will take effort and organization from an expecting mother until delivery day. Starting early will allow a woman to feel more relaxed and ready during the final days before her baby arrives. Here are a few steps to follow below to ensure that nothing important is left out.

Getting a Jump on the Necessities

Though some things, like the overnight hospital bag-, can wait until a woman is closer to delivery, there are many preparations that can be taken care of much sooner. Some should actually be taking place throughout the pregnancy, such as exercise and learning pain management techniques. Classes are a great introduction to safe forms of exercise and are proven programs for learning about pain management.

Classes also provide other alternative benefits to mothers. They are a great opportunity for woman to meet and socialize with other mothers to share tips and stories. Classes also teach woman about many optional choices for post-delivery, like circumcision and cord blood banking. Cord blood banking is where remaining blood is collected from the baby’s umbilical cord immediately following delivery to be stored as a potential medical resource for the family.

Readying the home is another important preparation step. A nursery can be prepared as an entire room in the home or simply a space in a mother’s bedroom. Purchasing a safety-approved crib, a changing table and a dresser are generally the basic furniture used. For the first few weeks of their life, babies won’t need much more than plenty of diapers, onesies and receiving blankets. Babies shouldn’t be sleeping with toys or extra pillows and blankets, so there isn’t a big need to feel like the nursery needs to be filled with much more than the basics.

Knowing When to Start with Final Preparations

Everyone knows the due date is just a mark on the calendar; babies regularly prove it by coming out on their own schedule. The onset of labor may seem like a big mystery, but there are actually indications to watch for. Knowing when labor will begin offers a better chance of being fully prepared for the delivery.

Up to a couple of weeks before labor begins, mom will receive a burst of energy. This nesting energy is nature’s way of giving mom the opportunity to get her house in order for the new arrival. Use this time to give the house a final clean, launder all of the baby’s linens with detergent made especially for baby and pack the hospital stay bag. This bag can contain clothing for mother and baby to travel home in, health information or any other important paperwork, and anything that a woman would like to have during delivery as a comfort or a distraction.

Tips for a Speedy Recovery

Recovering from childbirth is something mom has to do while also helping baby adapt to the new environment. The proper use of nutrition and exercise started during pregnancy should continue, in order to minimize the recovery time and prevent some common problems following birth. Exercise is a great way to avoid post-partum depression, return the body to its previous proportions, and reduce fatigue. Proper nutrition and supplementation can prevent thyroid problems and edema.

Healthy deliveries are the result of mom putting in the effort upfront to be ready for labor and baby’s arrival. Anything can happen, but planning increases the chance of a positive outcome.

Health Consequences of Wi-Fi on Children and Pregnant Women

by Bellysonic

pregnant woman using wi-fiBarrie Trower makes a good case for keeping children and pregnant women out of close range of wireless communications.

This independent scientist talks a lot about what microwave radiation can do to the genes, especially those of a fetus who has no natural protection against them.

This is part 1 of a 13-part series well worth watching.

You owe it to yourself and your baby to watch this and protect yourselves.

Bellysonic has always been aware of the potential hazards of RF radio frequencies, especially on younger children, and pregnant women. Our product design, product literature and website includes information that addresses this issue.

Bellysonic, which is a non-wireless   listening accessory that comes standard with wire cable should be used with stand alone Mp3 players, smart phones that permit the phone application to be turned off, or conventional stereos. Most MP3 players are not WIRELESS, but those that are should be used with the wireless function turned off, or may be connected to the Bellysonic via the included audio cable (cable can be extended to its fullest length – approx 9 feet). See more about the Safety Guidelines for Bellysonic.

Additionally this is not to say a parent who is mature enough to research and make decisions for themselves is not capable of doing their own research, but the facts say that parents should exercise caution when placing anything WIFI near a pregnant woman.

The report goes on to say that in the end it was discovered the drug didn’t work. So they didn’t help prevent miscarriages, but gave the gift of 2nd generation infertility and cancer.

DES, or diethylstilbestrol, was widely used in the United States, Europe and elsewhere from the 1940s through the 1960s to prevent miscarriage, premature birth, bleeding and other problems. Many companies made and sold it as pills, creams and other forms.

Studies later showed it didn’t work. The government told doctors to stop using it in pregnancy in 1971, after DES daughters in their late teens and 20s were found to be at higher risk of a rare form of vaginal cancer. Further research has tied DES to infertility and various pregnancy problems.

Pregnancy Study in Canada Uncovers Risks

A recent study of conducted in Canada covering 2006-2007 and 2008-2009 found that there could be many more complications and health related issues with the older mothers.

Here’s an excerpt from the article published by the Globe and Mail

Nearly one in five babies born in Canada has a mother age 35 or older, the age at which a woman’s risk of preterm birth, developing complications such as gestational diabetes or having a child with a chromosomal disorder starts to increase, according to a report published Thursday by the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) .:
