Mothers Know Music Soothes their babies

Since women started having babies (!), expectant mothers have known that they could soothe or calm or just entertain their babies through music. Mothers have long sung soft lullabies to both the yet-to-be-born and to the young babies out of the womb.

Often the singing was also a way for the mother to relax herself as the healing power of music, long understood, worked on her as well as on the baby.

The Fetus Reacts to Sounds Like We DO!

Bellysonic musicI’ve had the great pleasure of following my own daughter through the first 7 months of her pregnancy this year. She is a great researcher on her pregnancy and she shared with me not only her own ultrasound pictures, but many fascinating ultrasound videos she’d found on the internet.

Although it seems logical somehow, it was still amazing to see the fetus react to sounds played close to, or to light shined on, the mother’s belly. They would grimace or turn their heads or, in some cases, even put their hands over their eyes or ears blocking out the offending intruder.

Does Playing Music through Bellysonic Disturb the Baby?

One question my daughter had about music being played into the womb, for instance through her Bellysonic prenatal player, was whether she was disturbing the baby. A good question and I believe we decided that the mother would have to sense that somehow and know when to stop, or to continue.
