Here are some interesting statistics on teen pregnancy in the US:
• Teen pregnancy: Three out of 10 girls in the United States get pregnant before age 20. About 7 percent of women ages 15-19 got pregnant in 2006. That represents a small rise from 2005, when rates dropped to a 30-year low.
• Birth: 57 percent of teen pregnancies end in a live birth.
• Abortion: 27 percent of teen pregnancies end in abortion.
• Miscarriage: 16 percent of pregnancies end in miscarriage.
• Adoption: Of the births, less than 3 percent result in adoption.
• Comparison: 83 percent of abortions performed in the United States are to women older than 20.
• Education: Fewer than half of the teens who have a baby before age 18 ever graduate from high school. Fewer than 2 percent earn a college degree by age 30.
• Money: Two-thirds of families started by an unmarried teenage mother are low income. A quarter of all teenage mothers receive welfare within three years of their child’s birth.
• The dads: 80 percent of fathers don’t marry the teenage mother of their child.
These stats come from The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy; the Guttmacher Institute.

Hi Erlangen! I lived in Fuerth bei Nurnberg for 2 years, then several more places, including about 20 years around Wiesbaden, and then my final 5 years in Germany were in Duesseldorf. I remember an Erdbeerfest in Erlangen one year – very delicious as I recall
Now back home in the US, state of Washington.
Glad you like the post.

While we’re on the subject of Bellysonic » Blog Archive » The Reality of Teenage Pregnancy, Our attitude towards our children is perhaps the single most important consideration in proper child rearing. Do our words and actions truly show our children we love them? Or do we take the approach with the father on “That 70′s Show” and call our child “Dumb Ass”.

While too many parents still stick to the “dumb ass” approach to child raising, sites like “BetterParenting.com and your Total Transformation Program are sure to get some of the dumb ass parents turned around!
What the criticizing parents don’t realize is that their approach is simply a reflection of themselves. They are simply passing on old patterns learned perhaps from when they were children. If they are willing to learn how to re-program themselves, they can break these old habits so that the next generation will be free of them.
